How It All Started
My e-bike obsession began on a Fort Lauderdale beach day in 2012 when I rented a 2010 Pedego Comfort Cruiser for what I thought would be two hours. That chunky 400-watt beast weighed nearly as much as I did and topped out at 12-15 mph, but it was love at first pedal-assist. My buddy and I had so much fun that we extended the rental for two days, and then I did something completely irrational—I bought that well-worn rental bike for $3,000. Way too much money? Absolutely. Regrets? Zero. That overpaid Pedego changed my life.
The Journey Since
Over the past decade-plus, I've owned everything from budget hub motors to high-end mid-drives, logging thousands of miles on trails, streets, and boardwalks. I've learned that the "best" e-bike is the one that makes you grin, battery range estimates are wildly optimistic, and you'll always want more torque. These days, I'm deep into custom builds and geeking out over the future of e-bike tech.
