eBike vs traditional bike comparison

by JamesP_Rider1 day ago

Hey everyone!

Been thinking a lot lately about custom builds, and it got me wondering about the differences when you're working with an eBike versus a traditional one. For those of you who've tackled both, what are your biggest takeaways? Is it the motor and battery integration that makes eBike custom builds more complex, or are there unexpected benefits to having that power source to play with? I'm curious if anyone has tried converting a custom traditional frame to an eBike, or vice-versa, and what challenges/rewards you found!

Hey there! This is a fantastic topic, and something I've spent a lot of time pondering myself. For me, the biggest takeaway with eBike custom builds is definitely the motor and battery integration – it adds a whole new layer of complexity to frame design and component selection that you just don't have with a traditional bike. I've actually converted a steel touring frame into an eBike using a mid-drive, and while it was a fun challenge, battery placement and cable routing were definitely the trickiest parts to make it look clean and balanced. The reward, though, is having a truly unique ride with power!
