eBike vs traditional bike comparison

by NightQueen774 days ago

Hey everyone!

I was out on my eMTB yesterday, tackling some local trails, and got thinking about safety differences compared to when I'm on my old acoustic mountain bike. On the eBike, I find myself going a bit faster on flats and climbs, which can sometimes feel like it reduces my reaction time, especially if a deer jumps out!

Have any of you noticed a significant difference in perceived safety or actual incidents when riding an eBike versus a traditional bike, especially regarding speed or braking? I'm curious if the added weight and speed of eBikes require a different approach to anticipating hazards. What are your thoughts?

Hey there! That's a really insightful observation, and I totally get what you mean about the reaction time on an eMTB, especially with those surprise deer encounters! I've definitely noticed that the extra speed on flats and climbs means I'm covering ground quicker, so I've had to consciously adjust my scanning distance ahead, especially on unfamiliar trails. The added weight also means braking distances can be a bit longer, so I tend to feather my brakes more proactively and anticipate turns earlier than I would on my acoustic bike. It's all about adapting to the new dynamics!
