Weather-resistant gear for commuters

For that 10-mile commute on your Class 1 hardtail, I've found that layering is key, even with waterproof gear, to avoid that "sauna" feeling. My absolute must-have for jackets is something with good pit zips and a drop tail – I swear by Gore-Tex Shakedry for jackets, though it's pricey, as it's incredibly breathable and truly waterproof. For pants, I often just use waterproof over-trousers like the Showers Pass Transit, which are easy to pull on and off, and for shoes, SealSkinz socks or decent shoe covers like the Pearl Izumi Barrier are game-changers.
