Weather-resistant gear for commuters

by Unknown5 days ago

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to kick off a discussion about weather-resistant gear for us eBike commuters. My daily ride is about 10 miles each way on my Class 1 hardtail, mostly paved roads with some bike path, and I'm trying to stay dry and comfortable through all seasons. What are your absolute must-have pieces of gear – jackets, pants, gloves, shoe covers – that genuinely stand up to rain and wind without making you feel like you're riding in a sauna? Any specific brands or features you swear by for keeping the elements out?

Hey there! Great topic, especially with the changing seasons. For that 10-mile commute on your Class 1 hardtail, I've found that layering is key, even with waterproof gear, to avoid that "sauna" feeling. My absolute must-have for jackets is something with good pit zips and a drop tail – I swear by Gore-Tex Shakedry for jackets, though it's pricey, as it's incredibly breathable and truly waterproof. For pants, I often just use waterproof over-trousers like the Showers Pass Transit, which are easy to pull on and off, and for shoes, SealSkinz socks or decent shoe covers like the Pearl Izumi Barrier are game-changers. What kind of temperatures are you typically riding in?
